Sync or swim!

In this new edge of information super highway and borderless communication, no man is an island because we are all part of the big cyber universe. The subject of English of science and technology will help students to explore further into their interest and provide a countless source of reference. As a teacher who is teaching this critical subject, I do not see any problem learning this subject because it could further strengthen your elective science subject (bio, physics & chemistry). With the use of internet, students can make full use of all the sources available and discover what is beyond the learning in the classroom. I hope all you readers out there will support and share with me on how we can make this subject better.

Nuclear Energy For the Future?

Nuclear technology is technology that involves the reactions of atomic nuclei. It has found applications from smoke detectors to nuclear reactors, and from gun sights to nuclear weapons. There is a great deal of public concern about its possible implications, and every application of nuclear technology is reviewed with care. Nuclear power is the controlled use of nuclear reactions (currently limited to nuclear fission and radioactive decay) to do useful work including propulsion, heat, and the generation of electricity. Nuclear energy is produced when a fissile material, such as uranium-235, is concentrated such that the natural rate of radioactive decay is accelerated in a controlled chain reaction and creates heat - which is used to boil water, produce steam, and drive a steam turbine. The turbine can be used for mechanical work and also to generate electricity.

EST PANEL STRATEGIC PLAN

INTRODUCTION

English for Science and Technology (EST) as a compulsory subject in boarding schools, provides students with the language skills to access and understand materials on science and technology, and to express ideas and concepts in English. This subject is structures to cater the needs of students of all proficiency levels as it covers all aspects as stipulated. The content of this subject are geared to encourage students to explore, discover, obtain and acquire as much as possible from the pool of knowledge around them. Moreover, it needs the teacher not only utilize and exploit the contents of this subject to its fullest but also go beyond its cover s to provide students with the opportunity and realization of the expense and vastness of the realm of knowledge that lies within their grasp. Hence, it is hoped that this modus operandi will be both a useful guide and invaluable resource to facilitate and enhance the percentage of the SPM EST result as this subject is considered as a killing subject.

THE AIMS OF EST

1. It teaches the various ways of accessing using information to advance in various field
2. It lays the foundation in the use of English in the fields of science and technology; for present and for further studies at tertiary level
3. It helps to develop an ability to grasp basic concepts and ideas in science and to understand methods of science thought and enquiry in English common to all kinds of scientific and technical discourse.
4. It enables students to think critically of issues in science and technology.

STRATEGIES

1. To search for creative and innovative method in teaching and learning process
2. To use the internet and other electronic media to access and understand information.
3. To equip the teachers with the latest information on curriculum specifications, scheme of work, volume of work as well as the examination format.
4. To expose the teachers on correct marking techniques on examination paper in order to help the students to improve their performance.
5. To construct questions up to the level of SPM question paper to familiarize the students with the actual questions of SPM.
6. To carry out activities and programs to achieve excellent result among students.
7. Interminable motivation to the students to improve their performance in EST
